Mia W

Hello, my name is Mia Waters, I am 59 years old and I’m a teacher.  I’ve been with Marino’s Fitness since October 2012.

I never belonged to a gym before Marino’s, but I always did some type of fitness classes.  I joined Marino’s because I wanted to support my friend who was looking for something more specific and dare, I say, age appropriate.  She needed the accountability, so I said, “why not?”

I stayed with Marino’s this long because they believe we all deserve to live our best life.  They don’t believe in gimmick diets or silly exercises.  They truly help you find a path that’s right for you; whatever you think a healthy lifestyle is, they support you.  Most importantly, they encourage you to do things outside of the gym and set personal goals so we can continue to grow as people.

I was pre-diabetic before starting this journey.  Their registered dietitian didn’t tell me what to eat, but instead taught me about which foods would help lower my blood sugar.  Anyone can give you a meal plan, but that only works for a short period of time.  Not everyone can teach you about food and help you understand the science.  The dietitian reviews my bloodwork and makes recommendations to help me get healthy from the inside.  And the coaches help me get healthy on the outside.  It’s a winning approach for my overall health!

If I had to describe the culture at Marino’s it would be: #Family, #UGOTTHIS, #Youreabadass.  Marino’s is my happy place, and not only because of the coaches, but because of the members.  Everyone is on your side, cheering you on, supporting you.  Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I’d do a 5k race, a Mud Run, and an obstacle course race.  But if they believed in me, I could believe in myself as well.

I really knew I was in the right place when, during my darkest days, they were there for me.  When I was going through my divorce, there were days when I just wanted to quit.  But Rachael was there for me, to listen and to encourage me.  She refused to let me quit on myself.  She said, “Mia, quitting is NOT an option” and she was right.  She gave me the strength to dig deeper and to keep moving forward.  I am forever grateful for my Marino’s Family.

If you’re looking for a place where you can get healthy at YOUR own pace, give them a call.  It’s not easy, but nothing worthwhile in life is easy.  But it will be worth it!
